Microsoft is developing an innovative feature for its Edge browser that will allow users to manage the browser’s RAM usage. The new capability, discovered by the keen-eyed Leopeva64—a prominent figure known for uncovering new features in Edge—includes a user-friendly slider within the browser’s settings. This slider will enable users to set limits on the amount of RAM Edge can utilize, particularly useful for PC gamers.
Found in the Canary test builds of Edge, the feature provides options to cap RAM usage specifically during PC gaming or universally across all operations. The slider’s settings range from as low as 1GB to as high as 16GB of RAM, depending on the system’s total RAM capacity. Microsoft notes, however, that setting a low RAM cap might slow down the browser’s performance, especially for those who tend to open numerous tabs.
This adjustment is part of a broader effort by Microsoft to enhance browser efficiency. The RAM management tool is located in the browser essentials section, which also houses Edge’s power efficiency mode—a feature that has been optimizing RAM, CPU, and battery usage for several years.
While the exact release date for this feature remains uncertain, it is currently available for experimentation in the Canary versions of Edge. This upcoming tool promises to give users more control over their browsing experience, particularly in resource-intensive scenarios.
